Gosen Guidus PE×9 — my 4.7/5 verdict & every shop price

The Gosen Guidus Superior PE×9 is a nine-strand braided line, sold in 150 m, 200 m and 300 m spools. I give it 4.7 out of 5 — with one honest caution about rinsing it in fresh water after every saltwater session, which you will find below. All prices in the tables were observed on 2 October 2026 and are the plain listed price: no discount codes, no coupons, no member pricing, shipping excluded.

What the Guidus PE×9 actually is

Most braids are woven from four strands (PE×4) or eight strands (PE×8). Guidus Superior uses nine. That ninth strand does two things you can feel on the water: the line stays rounder and more consistent in diameter, and it flows more quietly and smoothly through the small guides we use in light game fishing. It also packs neatly onto a small spool, which matters when your reel holds very little line.

It is a multicolour or solid-colour braid depending on the version, with a coating that resists salt and sun better than most lines at this level. Knots hold well against a thin fluorocarbon leader, and the line does not develop the annoying memory coils that cheaper braids do after a few sessions.

Who it is for

This is a line for anglers who fish light spinning and light rock fishing and want a braid that handles micro lures without losing the fight against bigger fish in the rocks. If you cast 1–10 g jigheads and soft baits around harbours, rocks and shallow ground, it fits perfectly.

It is also a good step up for anyone who has only used entry-level PE×4 braids: the difference in casting distance and quiet running through the guides is noticeable from the first session. It is not a cheap line, so if you only fish a few times a year, a simpler braid will do the job — but if you fish weekly like I do, the price per session is small.

My verdict: 4.7 out of 5

4.7 / 5

Roundness, smoothness, knot strength, salt resistance — Guidus PE×9 does nearly everything I ask of a braided line, better than anything else I have used in this class. It only misses a perfect score because of the one situation below.

The one caution: fresh water after every saltwater session

To be clear, the caution is not about fishing the line in running water — it is about what you do afterwards. Salt is the enemy of a thin braid: if you pack the rod away after a session and let the saltwater dry on the line, it stiffens the braid, dulls the colours and shortens its life well before it should. So every single time you fish the Guidus PE×9 in the sea, take a minute of maintenance before you store it.

Here is exactly what I do: at home, open the tap just enough to get a thin trickle of fresh water, hold the reel under it and wind the line back and forth through that stream several times, so the fresh water runs along the full length of the braid while it passes onto the spool. The trickle carries the salt off the line and out of the coils. Never blast the spool with a strong jet and never dunk the reel: a thin stream over the line is all it needs. Do that after every saltwater outing and this line stays round, soft and quiet through the guides for seasons.

150 m spool: every shop, cheapest first

The size I actually buy. Enough line for a light rock fishing reel at this diameter, and the cheapest entry into the Guidus PE×9.

Conclusion: where I would buy it today

In all three spool sizes, the cheapest verified price on 2 October 2026 came from Ajing Store in Portugal — €19.95 for 150 m, €23.50 for 200 m and €34.75 for 300 m. It is also the shop I have ordered from and reviewed myself, so the recommendation is practical, not just arithmetic.

Shipping changes the picture, so always add the courier cost to your own country before deciding. And note that Serbia and the United Kingdom sit outside the EU customs area — a lower sticker price there can disappear in import charges.

Methodology & disclosure

  • Every price is the plain listed price observed on 2 October 2026, with no discount code applied, excluding shipping and any import charges.
  • Where the listing states availability, I record "listed as available when checked". Where I could not verify it, I say so in the table instead of guessing.
  • Pound prices are shown as listed and converted at €1 = £0.8527 (rate of the check date); those rows are marked.
  • The TopFishing row shows the price I personally paid in my June 2026 order, not a current listing.
  • PE sizes and colours differ between shops; the spec column says what each listing actually sells, so like-for-like is on you.
