Shimano 26 Vanquish CE 1000SSSPG — European & Japan price comparison
This is the reel I am moving to. Below are the shops where I found it on 10 September 2026, all showing the reel as available at the time of the search except where noted. All prices are the undiscounted list price, with no coupon, no sale price and no member pricing, and they exclude shipping.
Why I am changing reel
The Stradic FM 1000 has never let me down, and I still think it is the sensible answer for most people. But the way I fish now — 0.3 PE, one to three gram heads, long sessions holding the rod high off the rocks — pushes on exactly the things where the Stradic is average and the Vanquish is exceptional.
- Weight. The 1000 SSS body is far lighter than the Stradic. Over a four-hour session that difference stops being a spec and becomes your wrist.
- Rotor inertia. The magnesium rotor starts and stops with almost no lag, so a half-turn of the handle really is a half-turn of the lure.
- Feedback. This is the real reason. In light rock fishing most bites are a change in weight, not a pull. The Vanquish transmits that through the handle in a way my Stradic simply does not.
- Start-up drag. With a 2 lb fluorocarbon leader, the first centimetres of a run decide whether you land the fish. The Vanquish drag opens smoother.
- The PG gear. The slow gear ratio of the 1000SSSPG suits the slow, controlled retrieves this style lives on far better than a fast reel.
It is not a rational upgrade in price-per-fish terms. It is a specialised tool for one narrow way of fishing, and that is the way I fish almost every trip.

Japanese shops (import charges added)
Japanese shops sell tax-free at origin, so the sticker price is never what you pay. For a parcel arriving in Italy I add 3.7% customs duty on fishing reels, 22% Italian VAT on top of value plus duty, and a €25 courier clearance fee. Converted at the rate of 10 September 2026: €1 = ¥178.59 and €1 = $1.1652.

Discovery Japan also carries Shimano reels, but the link I had opens a category page rather than this exact model, so it is not priced here.
What the numbers say
Once duty, VAT and the clearance fee are added, the cheapest Japanese route lands at €482.15 — close enough to the best European price that the European shop wins on warranty, return rights and delivery time.
The best total to Italy across everything I checked is €474.95. Japan only makes sense here if a shop runs a real discount, because the sticker price has to beat Europe by roughly a quarter just to break even after import charges.
Where that number came from
Ajing Store, at €474.95, was the cheapest of all the shops analysed on this page — European and Japanese alike. It is the shop I already buy lines and jigheads from, so the result is not a surprise and not a bargain bin either: it simply lists the CE model below everyone else, with no import charges waiting at the border.
Import figures are my own estimate for a single reel shipped to Italy. Courier handling fees vary between carriers, and a parcel can always be assessed differently at the border.
